Despite its harmless appearance, snow poses a great danger for drivers. Slippery offers little grip and can lead to a skid or a serious car accident. There are, however, strategies and equipment designed to safeguard the safety of drivers and passengers in these scenarios – this is the case with tires and snow chains. If you want to know how-to drive-in snow or ice or how snow chains work, you’ve come to the right place. We explain how-to drive-in snow or you can visit website.
What Are Snow Chains For?
Snow chains can be metallic or fabric and must be placed on the vehicle’s tires whenever it encounters floors covered with thick snow. Depending on the surface, it may be necessary to use chains or snow tires. However, in countries where it is rare to drive in very cold temperatures or on snow-covered roads, chains are a more practical option than tires, which are more labor-intensive to install.
How To Install Snow Chains?
It’s not easy, but with practice and the proper snow chains, the installation should go smoothly. Snow chains must be placed on the car’s drive wheels – these are responsible for traction. On light vehicles, these will likely be the front wheels. Consult your vehicle manual for more information.
To install the chain, you must stop the car on the side of the road in a safe area. Pay attention to the floor – you must avoid the presence of ice, as it poses an increased risk. Then, extend the chain on the inside of the wheel. Then lift the chain and close it to the top of the tire, confirming that it moves smoothly. The flexible rim must be placed inside the wheel, and the colored chain must be passed through the tension support. Then you have to stretch it and fit it. Bring a pair of gloves and a flashlight to make the outfitting process easier.
With snow chains installed, the safest area to drive is precisely on top of the snow. Also, remember that the maximum speed limit is lower than usual in these situations: in Portugal, if you have snow chains equipped, you must keep below 50 km/h. When you are outside the snow-covered area, you should remove the snow chains – if you don’t, they could break. If you are going on a road trip and are not used to doing this installation, it is wise to train a day before venturing out. Preferably put on and take off the chains a couple of times to get used to the process. It will save you work, comfort, and patience. You can also consider bulk salt for snow removal for example to clear snow.
